Hi! I’m Katie!
I started this blog in July 2016 as a creative outlet and a place to share the intentional lifestyle my little family is beginning to embark on. I am truly passionate about creating a beautiful, healthy, and intentional home and hope to inspire others to do the same. On the blog, these passions manifest themselves through posts about plant based recipes, tips on being more intentional with your resources and family, and easy to follow tutorials on making your home and life a more beautiful place. It is my goal that this little spot on the internet does not just add to all the noise but truly is a place that inspires intentional moments in your life and allows you to focus on the beauty around you.
Get to Know the Girl Behind the Blog:
1. Jake and I are pretty spontaneous!
Jake and I were engaged 6 months after we started dating and married just 5 months later. Now, we have been married for a little over two years. In that short amount of time, we have changed jobs, moved out of state, bought a house, and had a baby. We love to keep life interesting and are already trying to figure out what new excitement year number 3 will bring. Jake constantly pushes me to a better person and I am so thankful for his presence in my life. I love having him by my side as we pursue new life adventures.
2. I am
slightly completely obsessed with my Norwegian Forest Cat.
Shortly after Jake and I got married, a black and white 22 pound Norwegian Forest Cat wandered his way into our hearts and home. Edmond is quite a stud and I couldn’t imagine our life with out him. I am not pretentious about much in life, but there is no doubt that my cat is better than yours! 🙂
3. February brought us the best of surprises!
Our little E was born. Already, she has so much personality and has brought our family so much joy. Being her parents has challenged us to grow in so many ways. It’s crazy how much our life has changed in such a short amount of time but we wouldn’t want it any other way! Our desire for her to grow into a strong and healthy woman who loves God and people well has challenged us to take a hard look at our own life and values. This introspection has resulted in a change of our eating habits and lifestyle to reflect the values we hope to instill in our sweet girl. We are so thankful for this perfect addition to our family.
4. My heart beats for all things creative.
Jake always makes fun of me because there are so many projects that I want to complete. I have a hard time finishing one because I get so excited to start another. It seems that I’m always in the middle of a baking or crafting project. And our house pays the price! We live in a state of chaos to accommodate my ever growing project list! My current obsession is artisan crafts. Every time I hear that song from The Head and The Heart, the opening line really resonates with me. “I wish I was a slave to an age old trade…”
5. I’m a southern girl currently living in the Midwest.
North Carolina was home for me for the first 18 years of my life. South Carolina became my home for my 5 years of college (yes, 5 years) and a bit after. On a whim, I moved to Oklahoma to pursue a job opportunity and ended up meeting my sweet husband! I have been living in the Midwest ever since. I’m grateful that the Midwest gave me Jake, but I long to get back to the land of sweet tea and southern hospitality as soon as possible! I need my little to grow up with that charming southern accent!
6. My family and I are pursuing a whole foods, plant based diet.
And, we are not nearly as pretentious as that statement sounds! This started on a whim to do a 30 day plant based diet challenge and ended with a complete lifestyle change for our family. We have loved the variety in our diet that the plant based foods have provided and feel that it’s a much more healthy way to live. Occasionally, we still eat farm fresh animal products but not very often. Our goal is not to be exclusively plant based, but to be very conscious about the foods that we eat. We want to get away from processed foods altogether. It’s definitely a journey, one that we hope that you walk through with us.
7. I’ve turned into quite a crunchy mama.
Breastfeeding, co-sleeping, baby wearing, baby lead solids, etc. So, many things I thought I never would do as a parent have become second nature to me. It’s crazy how much your preferences and opinions change when your right in the middle of figuring out how to raise a brand-new little human. The attachment parenting style has worked so well for us. I’m really thankful for a husband who totally supports my out-of-the-box ideas.
8. I’m all about the details.
I find a lot of joy in the process. If I’m making a recipe, I will always make everything from scratch. For any project that I make, I will make sure every detail is just perfect. I think this drives Jake nuts sometimes! He often makes fun of me for the amount of time I spend making sure everything is exactly the way I want it. Every project takes me twice as long as it does everyone else because I am never satisfied! Sometimes, I try to be more efficient but, honestly, I never am!
I am not sure how this happened. Randomly, we decided to watch a food documentary one day. This food documentary was really inspiring and got us to start thinking about the food we eat and the lives we live. The more we thought about it, the more we wanted to learn about food production, natural health, sustainability, minimalist living, and so on. Every documentary inspired us to watch another one. Now we have a developed a pretty solid addiction to watching one at least a couple times a week! As weird as it is, these documentaries have actually had a huge impact on the way we live and think about life.
10. I’m an introverted extrovert.
I LOVE to be around people! True to the extrovert definition, I definitely get energy from spending time with people. However, if you knew me, you would think I was a classic introvert. I’m pretty quite and reserved in social settings, I get overstimulated very easily (I don’t even listen to music while I drive!), and I prefer intimate gatherings to massive crowds of people. I get stuck in my own head quite a bit and need time to process. However, I love people and really hate to be alone! I am a bit of a juxtaposition, I guess.
Our goal is to on live a minimal lifestyle so that we can focus on investing our time and resources into the people and experiences that matter most. We want to pursue a healthy lifestyle through the food that we eat and the activities that we participate in.
